Imagining new ways for American veterans and our communities to heal

The Department of Defense prepares new servicemembers well for warfighting but currently fails to teach homecoming warriors how to readjust to civilian life in the 21st century. Hummingbird Warrior's founder, a Marine Corps veteran, found healing through a variety of holistic approaches, including the Judeo-Christian faith traditions in which he was raised; Native American and other traditional earth-based spiritual practices; somatic therapies like holotropic breathwork, massage, and Reiki; and psychotherapy, especially Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) therapies. A core mission of Hummingbird Warrior is advancing research on and access to these so-called "alternative" therapies to enable a fuller understanding of human potential and support healing for veterans and all who seek the good medicine.
In 2020, Hummingbird Warrior's founder participated in an Oglala Lakota sun dance ceremony on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. His life was transformed by the healing he experienced there and he began to recover from a deep depression. Since then, he has continued to heal personal and intergenerational trauma through Western and Indigenous practices. A core ethos of giving more than taking informs this work, and the creation of Hummingbird Warrior as a "prayer team" provides a vehicle to do so. Working alongside with tribal allies across Turtle Island- the great continent known in the West as North and South America- Hummingbird Warrior channels capital and resources through direct and mutual aid. We currently support projects with the Oglala Lakota tribe of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota in the United States, the Yaqui tribe of Mexico and Arizona, and the Seikopai tribe of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Nature is God's gift and the original hospital, church, and pharmacy. We have failed to honor the bounty of our fields and gardens and find ourselves in a world of scarce medicines and many ailments. Through a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approach, Hummingbird Warrior is exploring ways to educate and inform veterans and their communities about natural healing remedies of all kinds and bring medicine back to the people where it belongs. In partnership with our fiscal sponsor for 2023, Kako Earth, we are developing ethical ethnobotanical and benefit sharing programs in the USA, Mexico, and Ecuador. We are building pathways to deliver naturally-derived goods and services to those seeking healing across Turtle Island and around the world.
Your generous support saves veteran lives and creates path-breaking opportunities for biocultural preservation and economic sovereignty in Indigenous communities across Turtle Island
Hummingbird Warrior currently lives in cyberspace, in the electronic spirit realm. We look forward to welcoming pilgrims of all positive prayers to the nests we are building across Turtle Island. Until then, join our mailing list and slide in our DMs @hummingbirdwarrior_radio
